Jadis at Cloney Audio

Based in Villedubert near Carcassonne in France, Jadis has been crafting fine valve powered electronics since 1983.

There is something very special about a good valve amplifier. Perhaps it’s because since Lee De Forest’s 1906 invention of the world’s first practical amplification device the “Audion”, vacuum tubes have endured. They have outlived every fashion and whim in audio and still offer a unique perspective on high fidelity audio.

Jadis’s amplification, designed by company founder Andre Calmettes, represents all that is best about valve technology. Principally, valve circuits can almost always be made more simple than their solid state transistor comparators. And in Hi-Fi this simplicity can result in a sound that many listeners find to be “simply” more natural.

But simplicity places great demands on execution as there is no room for electronic “sticking plasters” to mask deficiencies in design or component quality. This is where Jadis scores. Its amplifiers are beautifully constructed, both inside and out, leading to wonderful sound and aesthetics that guarantee pride of ownership. They are also enormously long lived, delivering listening pleasure year after year. And because Jadis builds its own transformers (the heart of a valve amplifier), long term serviceability is ensured.

From the democratically priced Orchestra (a Cloney Audio favourite) to preamplifiers like the outstanding JP 80mc and no holds barred high powered amplifiers like the twin chassis JA 200, there is something in the Jadis range that will please all fans of valve amplification. And, indeed, that will win converts amongst those who have never truly experienced the magic of this timeless technology.
