Esoteric Audio at Cloney Audio

Esoteric Audio is the high end brand of the Japanese Teac corporation which makes both consumer electronics, and studio electronics under its Tascam brand. In the pre- digital era, the Teac A3440 four track tape recorder was a mainstay for musicians and countless hit song demos were laid down on A3440s before migrating to Studer and Otari 24 track studio machines.

In the digital era, Esoteric, builds on this rich heritage with a range of digital and analogue electronics. A particular standout is the range of CD/SACD transports, DACs and integrated players. And where many manufacturers (even of high end products) rely on mass market CD transports, Esoteric is distinguished by its tank-like in-house VRDS neo mechanism. The latter in some respects has more in common with a high end analogue turntable than a simple CD mechanism. The stability and immunity to vibration which this approach confers is reflected in the sound, complemented by the rest of the machine's superb electronics.

For those seeking the ultimate, Esoteric’s lineup also includes a range of digital “clocks” which optimise the transfer of signal between the CD transport and the DAC, and the performance of the DAC itself.

Whether clocked or not, the sound of Esoteric’s digital players speak for themselves.
