Børresen Acoustics at Cloney Audio

Named after its founder designer and engineer Michael Børresen, Børresen Acoustics represents the latest phase of innovation, following on from his highly acclaimed designs for the Raidho company.

However, the speakers which carry the designer’s name represent a radical advance on his earlier works. As Børresen says: “When Børresen Acoustics embarked on the endeavor to create the ultimate loudspeaker, they set themselves some overriding goals: Reengineering the driver technology, optimizing the crossover network, bringing inductance down to the absolute minimum, and providing the new loudspeakers with the best mechanical grounding and resonance control.”

The company has set clear goals for all of its speakers to achieve: an unprecedented musical authenticity, combined with absolutely balanced and very natural sound.

Børresen Acoustics began with the launch of the highly acclaimed and award-winning 0-series of premium loudspeakers.

The speakers feature very lightweight cones, but more importantly, also employ a new and unique iron-free magnet system which replaces the normal ferrite magnets with 4 opposing, extremely powerful neodymium ring magnets. This fundamentally changes the interaction between the speaker’s voice coil and the magnet which drives it and is a key part of the clarity and natural dynamics the speakers bring to the reproduction of music.

These advanced bass/midrange drivers mate beautifully with the Børresen tweeter which is also a completely proprietary design. With an ultra-light membrane - with a moving mass of only 0.01 grams - it allows for no upper-frequency limitations with instantaneous response.

Unlike many high end speakers, all of the Børresen designs are very room friendly with a small footprint. The 0-series feature tapered natural wood veneered cabinets, which are designed to manage the airflow within the speaker enclosure - a beautiful example of form following function without compromising aesthetics.

Cryogenic treatment at -196°C increases conductivity by 6-8% and handcrafted silver rings reduce induction to unheard levels.

To finish his assault on the summit of performance, Børresen has also introduced special optional upgrades to the speakers, namely cryogenic treatment and the use of silver instead of copper pole rings in the bass/md unit, making an already astonishing line of speakers truly astounding.

With such an uncompromising approach to maximum performance and musical enjoyment, the Børresen 0-series are inevitably expensive.

This has led Børresen to introduce its new Z-series. The principle that guided the development of the Z-series loudspeakers was to provide an uncompromising high-end audio performance but more conventional than the 0-series. The speaker cabinets, in particular, are less complex, allowing for a significant reduction in price.

However, be in no doubt that Z-series remain true high-end speakers.

Both the 0 and Z ranges start with a stand mounted two-way and then progress to floor standing speakers which use increased numbers of drive units and larger cabinets to achieve greater dynamic range and bass extension. However, as we have demonstrated at some of our Hi-Fi shows and musical evenings, even the smallest speakers in the range can deliver scale and impact that belies their modest dimensions.

So whether you have a dedicated listening room or want to integrate high end audio into your regular living space, Børresen Acoustic’s speakers are an excellent choice.
