Rega at Cloney Audio

By the late 1970’s, the marketplace for affordable, performance orientated turntables was a pretty barren one, dominated by flimsy built contraptions from mass market electronics companies. Transcription turntables such as the now legendary Garrard 301 and 401 had shown the promise of vinyl, but were no longer available.

It took the lateral thinking genius of Rega’s Roy Gandy to design and manufacture a turntable which delivered genuine high fidelity sound at a price which enthusiasts in those recession prone times could afford. The original Planars included such innovations as an elastomer suspended motor to isolate the platter from vibrations, which platter itself was manufactured from float glass, an inert, yet relatively affordable material.

These were subsequently joined by Rega’s now legendary RB300 arm which employed a one piece casting technique never before used in a tonearm. The same innovative thinking underpins Rega’s latest turntables which we continue to enthusiastically recommend.

Rega has since expanded beyond its turntable roots into a range of excellent electronics which you can explore in our online store.
